I've been making a lot of quilt-themed card lately and thought I'd carry that over to this week's sketch. The little patterned squares on this page are one inch squares of DSP in coordinating colors. Now, before you groan about this, I will say you can make it with a square punch just as easy as pie. However, it's not too bad if you cut your one-inch strips (or have them leftover from another project and are too cheap to throw them away) and then just slice them with your paper trimmer. I have the Tabletop Cutter from SU (and this is the best time of year to get one, because of Sale A Bration!) and it is really a breeze. So it's not that bad… and it's very thrifty!
I use glue stick to put my squares down, because you have a little longer to play with it before it is set. You can either put the squares right next to each other, like they would be on a quilt, or you can space them out in a grid pattern like is shown on the sketch, more like a mosaic. You CAn cover the whole page if you want, but be prepared for that to be really visually busy. Mine are in a strip across the lower portion of the spread, and you should definitely mat your photos to make sure they don't get lost in the busyness.
One cool thing I've been doing lately is running my "quilt squares" through my Big Shot with a texture plate or folder. They look awesome and you have to actually touch them to make sure they aren't fabric. You've got to try it! Happy scrapping!
Hmmm. I scrapbook for me. I haven’t done it in close to a year, but I miss it terribly and hope to start back in the summer. However, I dreamed of this sketch last night – I’m going to take it as a sign that I need to do this page! Thanks for inspiring me, even my dreams!
