Helping Me Grow: stampin’ with my mom in my craft space

I had an opportunity yesterday that so many of you take for granted–I got to stamp with my mom! My parents live 1,100 miles away, so this delightful shared past-time is a total treat for us perhaps once a year. Today is Mom's birthday, so BONUS!

Kinda crazy that her daughter is an award-winning Stampin' Up demonstrator, yet Mom's mostly self-taught, but that's how it goes! We had a wonderful time and I was able to share a bunch of tips and tricks that will make it even more fun for her. Most especially Mom was thrilled to find out about our re-inkers! Wyoming is very dry and she had to work so hard to get a good image. I set her up with ink refills for all the colors she owns, so she's good to go.

Sorry about the mess in my stamp room… I wasn't going to post photos of it, but I decided that life is too short and these pictures my Dad took are too precious to me, not to share them here with you.

There is ONE BIG ADVANTAGE to showing you the TINY SPACE I work in: I hope it lets you see that lack of space is NO EXCUSE for not going for your dreams with a Stampin' Up business. If you have a table, you can become a top achiever and incentive trip earner like me. Don't feel like you have to have a dedicated craft room or a big meeting space. That's only a barrier in your brain! Don't let a "box" limit the size of your dreams. Ready to join? Click here.

You've probably heard me mention my tiny house before and wondered how my stamp area compared to your craft space. Now you know! : )

My mom worked on recreating a card from April's Class of the Month Club, and I made these watercolored floral thank you cards using the Helping Me Grow stamp set (retiring now!). It was so relaxing to color with the new watercolor pencils and then blend with the Aquapainters. I stamped a bunch for Mom to work on in the car as they begin the two-day drive home. Like any good stamper, she also brought her latest Paper Pumpkin kit to pass the time!

That was all the time we had, but what a lovely way to spend a couple hours. I'm so thankful they came this week. And I'm thankful for you, too–hope you enjoyed visiting Song of My Heart and seeing my stamp room "tour' today. If you walk away feeling encouraged or inspired, you will have made my day.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing these precious photos. My mom passed several years ago and what I wouldn’t give to be able to stamp with her on her birthday. Or any day! Love the card you made together.

  2. Love your comment about working in a very tiny space…..okay, I will stop complaining in my Spirit about my one and only desk top. I wish my Mom was still alive, because we would have fun crafting together too. My daughters live too far away, so I just share my craft space with friends and teens from church. They always think stamping is awesome, and it is! Thanks Lyssa and God Bless.

  3. You are truly blessed, and thank you for sharing. My mother passed away 8 years ago tomorrow, she lived in New Zealand and I live in Australia so we never did stamp together. She actually introduced me to Stampin ‘ up!💕

  4. Lisa, this post was amazing. Brought back memories. My aunt got my mom and sis and I into stamping years ago. When Mom and Dad built the new house on the family farm 11 years ago, my uncle finished a basement craft room for us. My sis and Mom and I spent hours down there. Mom passed away unexpectedly 1 1/2 years ago, just as I was preparing to move back home again. We are preparing to sell the house this summer and I will miss the craft room. It really is a bit too hard to go down there without her, though. I recently bought the chicken stamp set from you. (Mom loved chickens!) I will be moving into my great grandmothers old house next door when I’m done renovating it. My uncle has promised to make me a craft room! So glad you could spend precious time with your mom.

  5. Thanks for sharing your treasured moments with your Mom!
Lost my mom this past September and the wound is still raw for me.
She was my biggest supporter and saved every card I sent her.
Anyway, I thought my small space was small but yours might beat mine.
At least I’m no longer sharing the dinning table and do have a place to leave my work out.
Please don’t stop teaching and sharing with us. Thanks!

  6. Your card is wonderful and the beautiful pictures of you and your Mom are priceless! Thank you for sharing some of the time you enjoyed together and also pics of your craft space with the rest of us. When I used a small corner and could see my crafting stuff I think I used it more, now it is in another room and tucked away and I find it is harder for me to escape in there to do things than it was out with everyone!

  7. What a sweet post. You are so right to cherish the time together…and crafting together is even better. As for organizing…I put my left over scraps in file folders by general color group. All oranges together, yellows the same, etc. then they go in my file cabinet waiting till I need a bit of this or a bit of that. Thanks for sharing your fun day with your mom.
