31 Pages in 31 Days

Today I have a fun and cheerful page for you, one that I'd rank in my top five favorite pages for the month. I just really enjoy this color combo of Tangelo Twist, Crushed Curry, Pacific Point, Whisper White and Crumb Cake, and the cardstock pieces in the background came together almost exactly like I thought in my head. Trust me, that's not the typical occurance, so I ran with it, baby!

I wanted my three 5.5×8.5 inch pieces of cardstock to fan out like a deck of cards, and the top one needed to wind up straight so it could be the photo mat for the focal point photo. The eye is literally swept up with the fanned-out cards and lands right on the main photograph. Ridiculouslyamazingpage Look at the photo above and pay attention to where your eye falls first, then where it travels to next, and finally what it reads last. Then I echoed the fan-deck idea with two smaller photo mats drawing the eye down and to the right.

TIP: Another thing that helps with directing the eye along the page is to use the "heaviest" or darkest color, the one with the most visual "weight," as the photo mat (Pacific Point). The brighter colors, which "weigh" less because they feel light (Tangelo Twist, Crushed Curry) are just points along the path to where the eye is going to rest. That principle is also why I put the Pacific Point-colored circle on the bottom of the set of three circular stamped embellishments, too.

So there you go…. more than you ever wanted to know about the design process…Deep Thoughts by Lyssa Zwolanek! lol

  1. I agree that this is also one of my favorites – but, I probably have chosen 15 favorites out of the pages you have shown us. Oh, well. I have pinned most of them and will use them in my scrapbooks!
