On the same tour we also visited the ruins of Farley Hill mansion, a once-gorgeous home, used as a movie set for Island in the Sun. It was turned into a national park after it burned down in the sixties. Apparently you used to be able to go inside and see the marble floors, but after an earthquake damaged more of the building, they had to fence it off. You can read more about it here. It must have really been something in its day.
So now all that's left of the place is the view and the silence…we also visited a place on the coast called Bathsheba, which was really pretty. No going in the water there, though–the surf was really strong that day.
