SU Cruise Day Six: St. Maarten

Stamp Tour 2010 541

On Friday we woke up sailing in to St. Maarten/St. Martin, and had a delightful day learning about this island with two identities. When you pass this marker on the road, the front half of your vehicle is in French territory and the back half is in the Dutch West Indies.

St. Maarten surprised me with the dryness and the cactus, the flatness (especially compared with St. Lucia) and again with the trash everywhere. You would never see trash strewn about like that in France or the Netherlands, so I'm not sure why they allow it here. Anyway, we took a bus to a butterfly farm (take a right just past the nude beach) and really enjoyed it. It took a lot of patience to get pictures of the occupants, however, as a butterfly is the very definition of flighty.

After we shopped a bit in beautiful, high-class Marigot (the French capitol) we came back to Phillipsburg and I went back out to get a little beach time. The weather there was the best of the entire trip.

You could take a water taxi or a regular taxi, and you can guess which one I chose! This is the view as we neared the beach. I just went to the beach closest the pier as I was a little nervous about accidentally winding up on a nude beach. Some of the demos had hilarious stories to tell that evening at dinner.

And look at what was on our bed when I got back! I was just delirious with joy when I saw the cruise bag. It's by far my favorite of all the Stampin' Up bags I have received over the years. Turquoise is my favorite color, so I knew I was going to like it when I first saw the travel wallet that arrived weeks ago. I LOVE this bag. Thank you, thank you, SU!

  1. Lyssa, I just went to St. Maarten in February and our water taxi driver was texting and ran into another one. Several people in our taxi were shaken up and bruised but luckily we didn’t sink!! Glad yours was a better experience!
