On Day Four of the Stampin' Up cruise, this is the view to which I awoke from our balcony. Mom spent the day relaxing on the ship while I took a tour of St. Lucia. There really wasn't time to do this island justice, but I did enjoy what I got to see. Below you can see Marigot Bay, which has been used in several movies.
The most outstanding feature of a truly beautiful island is the Pitons, twin volcanic peaks that rise far above the rest of the island. They are accessible only by the winding mountain roads, complete with the tightest switchbacks this Western-raised girl has ever encountered!
We visited a little fishing village called Soufriere, with a great beach where I found some sea glass I am going to have my cousin turn into a pendant for me. And then we got to a point where you had to leave the road and continue by foot.
Our ultimate destination was a volcanically-warmed waterfall called Warm Piton Falls. There were two pools–one quite warm, coming directly from the rocks, and one with water that had cooled some as it was exposed to the air. It was a really cool experience.
On the way back from the falls, I ate some lunch from a roadside stand, believe it or not–barbeque chicken, flatbread, and fish cakes. I survived. Actually it was quite good. Each island has their own specialty sauces and St. Lucia is known for two– a vinegary, fruity barbeque sauce, and a banana ketchup. Yep, you heard me right. Banana ketchup. And yes, it's as disgusting as it sounds. Must be an acquired taste!
St. Lucia was just a stunning day. I wasn't as enamored of all the islands we visited, but I would definitely go back to this one. I'm so thankful for the chance to have seen these amazing, exotic places. Thank you, Stampin' Up!
