We got our first snowfall of the year in the night and it's very pretty, although already half melted. You can see the leaves on some of our trees haven't even started to fall yet! They will now, though!
I had a sad occasion to make a sympathy card this week. A long-time coach, coworker and family friend passed suddenly of a stroke. We know our times are in His hands (Psalm 31:15) and we are thankful for the testimony of his life's work, but it's still sad. Sometimes, like snow in October, season are cut shorter than we think they should be.
Mike shared a memory I didn't know about–we might never have met if it wasn't for Coach Price! As a mentor figure and the father of several of Mike's good friends, he advised Mike to take an English minor in college, which ended up being the clincher for Mike getting hired at the academy. If he hadn't gotten that job, he wouldn't have been in the hallway of the college that day when I waltzed in for my sophomore year. Just one more reason to smile when we think about the lasting impact of our friend's life.

One a brighter note, today my family are celebrating the one-year anniversary of my dad's stroke. I really appreciated all of the prayers and well-wishes that poured in that scary afternoon and in the following days as we waited to find out how bad it was. We are so thankful for his amazing recovery! Life sure can change on a dime.
