Instead of cardstock or designer papers, lay four or five strips of ribbon across the two page spread, ending in a circle matted focal point photo. You can further emphasize the photo by adding a frame of buttons, brads, and other circular embellishments around it. TIP: Many people make the common mistake of spreading out their embellishments all over the spread, like one brad in each corner–when they would have much more visual "KA-POW" if grouped together.

If I were you, I'd keep it to a plain color for the background pages, and let the ribbons really shine. Yes, you have to USE the ribbon–don't just pet it on the spool! Cut it and glue it down! I learned a long time ago that using and creating with an item brings you a lot more pleasure than hoarding it.
