Photo Tutorial: Multiple Pocket Gift Card Holder

Ever need to give more than just a single gift card? This one can hold four to eight cards and would be sure to delight whomever was lucky enough to open it.

I bought a little cheapo kit to make one of these last year, and it was so much fun that I adapted it for easier measurements and less waste, and here it is! I've been sittin' on this one for a while, wanting to keep it a secret until after Incredible Cards Club, which was this past Monday. They loved it! And I hope you do, too.

So here we go–you'll need the following supplies:

3×11 strip of solid color cardstock for the back (I used Cherry Cobbler)

Four to eight pieces of cardstock for the pockets, measuring 6×4 inches (Very Vanilla)

3 pieces of DSP measuring 2.75×1.5, 3.5×2.75 and 2.75×3 (Jolly Holiday DSP)

Scoring tools, Sticky Strip, Mini Glue Dot,

Small Oval punch, Round Tab Punch, Scallop Border Punch

Velcro tabs, ribbon, stamps and ink to embellish as desired (I used Perfect Punches)

 
Start by doing all your scoring. I made these two templates to pass around and give everyone a little cheat sheet at our club. Score the long backing piece at 3.25, 4, 7.75 and 8.5 inches. The lid is the shorter of the two flaps on the ends.

Score all of the pocket pieces at 2.75 and 5.5 vertically, and 3.5 horizontally. You'll be trimming off much of the little flap that is created by this horizontal score, as shown in the template on the left, above.

Fold all the pockets together individually, and adhere each of them with SNAIL on the flaps (fold flaps into the inside). Then, punch a notch out of the top of each one. The envelopes are just as wide as the old style punches, so they are easy to center.The notch helps you get your fingers in there to pull the card out more easily.

Stack all the envelopes (4-8, depending on your needs, mine has 4) in a stack using two Mini Glue Dots between them. This allows them to easily accordion out, as seen below. The glue dots are in the center top and bottom between the pockets, rather than the sides or all four corners.

You will need to use Sticky Strip or a strong liquid glue like Tombow Multipurpose, not SNAIL, to adhere the stack of pockets to the backing, because this will get a lot of pressure.

Adhere the DSP you pre-cut to the areas of the holder that they are precut to fit. The rest is just decorating! Use the Scallop Border Punch to make a pretty edge along where it will be fastened shut with self-adhesive Velcro. I also made a place for writing a message with the Sprial Notebook Punch, and decorated my stack of pockets with a strip of DSP and a punch.

TIP: you can make these to hang on the tree for a Christmas morning surprise! Attach a tag to the front or tie it on with ribbon.
