Ombre butterfly cards

Wanted to share another few samples from the projects I sent in for display at the Stampin' Up Convention last week. I really love how this ombre technique card turned out–but I won't tell you how many times I had to practice it before getting this one good sample!

To acheive the graduated color look, I stamped the dots background from the new Kinda Eclectic stamp set in full strength Blackberry Bliss ink on the bottom. Then I moved the stamp up and stamped again, without reinking. Then I moved it a second time and stamped again, also without reinking. All in all I think I stamped it maybe six times all together, only inking it up that first time. The image got lighter and lighter and almost disappeared at the top. Cool!

The technique is just "stamping off," which has been around for decades–but it is pretty impressive when you do it in such a concentrated, specific way to produce the ombre look.

So now I had my background all finished, and I decided to do the butterflies the same way, stamping once full strength and then several more times without reinking. It really gives you a gorgeous monochromatic look, and totall maximizes your ink colors, when you know about this stamping-off technique!

All those pieces of practice cardstock when I was trying to get everything spaced correctly came in handy as I was able to pull together this fun circle layout with leftover butterflies and more of that luscious Blackberry Bliss cardstock and ribbon. YOWSA! That color just kills me.

A little goes a long way, however! I like this third card better because the Blackberry doesn't reach out and smack ya.
