Isn't this adorable? We made this project at Big Shot Club this month using the Chalkboard raw Decor Elements sheets. You can run DE through the Big Shot and cut it into any shape you want–including letters! Imagine having vinyl wall letters available in whatever quantity you needed?! Stampin' Up carries lots of colors of Decor Elements sheets–check them out on page 205 of the 2010-11 Idea Book & Catalog. AND you get two big sheets of the stuff–I have made more than 20 of these chalboards and I still have some left over.
Out of all the colors, though–Chalkboard wins hands-down for me! I love making these easy mini message boards using the Top Note or the Scallop Square Clear Bigz dies. Start with cardboard–the thickness that comes in the packs of DSP to stabilize it is great (and can be cut to size with your Tabletop Cutter, which will even cut chipboard, it's SOOOO strong).
Cover it front and back with DSP cut to the same size (I like either 6×6 (no waste from a sheet of 12×12) or 5×6, like the one above. use a liquid glue–SNAIL will not hold for the amount of pressure that the Decor Elements will be putting on the paper. We want this cutie to last all the way through to Christmas and beyond!
Adhere your Decor Element chalboard piece by peeling off the back and sticking it down. Seriously! That's all there is to it. For larger pieces, you'd have to be careful not to trap air bubbles or get wrinkles, but these are so small and simple all you need to worry about it getting in on straight.
Use your Crop A Dile to punch the holes for the ribbon to go through. I used wide Real Red grosgrain. Tie a long piece of Hemp Twine through one of the holes to attach the chalk. We went on to decorate our boards with snowflakes from the new Northern Frost Decorative Strip die, the Tasteful Trims die (my absolutel fave from the Holiday Mini), and a little saying printed out from the computer.
Love it! This makes a great project for kids, too. So call me today to order some raw Decor Elements chalkboard vinyl, or shop here: www.lyssa.stampinup.net
This is super cute. We don’t have Decor Elements here in OZ … but I can imagine how much fun you are having! If ever we get them … I might need to ask for some advice!? Hugs xxaxx
Love this! I was just looking at my sheets of chalkboard DE and wondering what to do with them. Thanks for the inspiration!
Super cute! I may have to try this with my kids group.
