Faux Metal Embossed Tags with Crystal Effects

You might remember I spoke at Stampin' Up's regional convention in Milwaukee at the beginning of April, on the topic of Crystal Effects. Well, in cleaning out my scrap bins in preparation from the big Color Renovation, I found some rejects that I considered but eventually culled from my presentation. One of them was the idea of filling faux metal tags with a mixture of Crystal Effects and reinkers.

So the card above showed the faux metal tag. These are easy but PUTZY to do, so I don't do them very often. Basically you take your shape, in my case the Tag Punch, and put on three layers of embossing powder, one at a time, until you have a very thick metal coat–and then on the last layer, the SECOND you turn off the heat tool, you press a clean, dry stamp (no ink) into the still-hot EP. Pull it off after about five seconds or so when the EP has cooled, and you will be left with a nice deep impression in the metal.

Isn't it cool? Nothing else quite like it out there. But it takes a while to demo, and I had to keep my presentation short, so out it went, before I even got to the next step of filling it with the Sage Shadow and CE. Here's a quick card made with the one I did fill in advance.

Sorry it's a bit dark. It was tricky to photograph the shiny metal without any glare. The next one's closer–side note here–I was under the delusion that you could not use the Scallop Square Clear Bigz die on a cardfront because it was just a hair too wide. And that was disappointing to me, because it's very cool! well, lo, and behold, you CAN use it on a regular card front. Just use it with a clear envelope, because they are just that much wider than the paper ones. WOW! Look for a lot more of these from me shortly!

So, same faux metal tag technique, only this time the impression is filled with a couple of drops of Crystal Effects and a drop of Melon Mambo ink refill. It takes a bit longer to dry than Crystal Effects by itself, because you have messed with the liquid in it, but it does dry solidly.
