I didn't have a blog series planned for this week, but it's turning out to be one anyway! This is part three of posts all sharing the results from ONE really great crafting session last weekend. My kids were at a Youth Conference, hubby was deep in arcane books for his PhD work, and it was just latte-powered me in the stamp room with no interruptions! You can view parts one and two here.
I think this one might be my personal favorite out of everything I made that day. It uses a retired (sorry!) die-cut set called Lots of Labels and the "shutters" are folded upward slightly to pop off the page. I took a photo from another angle so you could see how the rooster image is kind of laying in a shallow "bowl" formed by the bent cardstock.
You may be wondering why I went with gold pearls and/or gold thread on these farm-inspired cards. You could use any metal, really, but I wanted to cut through the cutesy of the plaid background and make it more modern looking. Nobody wants a card that reminds them of 30 year old kitchen decor : ) Remember when we all had plaid on the bottom, print on the top and a busy border in between??? And how hard it is to remove wallpaper?! LOL
Same deal here–farmhouse style, but clean and uncluttered, with plenty of neutrals so it keeps a fresh and modern feel. Farmhouse is all about textures, whether it's a touch of burlap trim, a ball of twine or a distressed paint finish background. I found I preferred the Crackle Paint background stamped off once so it was lighter and subtler than straight stamping.
This last one is the simplest, but I really love this layout so you'll be seeing it again soon. It's sooo simple, but it just works because it follows the rule of triangles and has good white space, two important visual design principles. I found a home for my last die cut as a fun little tab element you can add to the top, bottom or sides of any focal point.
