I hope you all aren't TOO tired of seeing this fun new card fold style–I have one last sample to share! I needed to make a super-special card for my super-special grandma, who pulled her back really badly last week taking care of her husband, who is very close to Heaven at this point. She'll be ninety this spring, so things take a long time to heal, and it hurts her even more not to be able to "do" for Grandpa Carl, I know. He doesn't wake at all any more, so the time grows very short. Would y'all pray for them, for me, today? Thank you.
I made Gramma's version with Wisteria Wonder and Sweet Sugarplum, sponging the Irresistibly Floral specialty pre-embossed papers and hand-cutting the big flowers from Flourishing Phrases (wood, clear). You can see how to make this Four-Fold card in the photo tutorial here, and see a wedding version in this post as well.
My grandma is a cardmaker herself–in fact my first stamp party was at her house at age 12!–so I know she'll appreciate all the details and effort that went into this special card.
Ok, now I'm gonna share something really personal, even for me, Miss Spill-Your-Guts : ) This is the most recent letter I got from Gram. She knows the health trials I've been struggling with and all the emotions that go along with not being able to do the things that have always made up your identity and sense of self-worth.
She hand-wrote, in her precious handwriting, the words to several hymns and choruses she remembered, in a four-page letter. How I bawled when I read it… how blessed I am to have a grandmother who knows and loves God, who continues to exhort and encourage even as her eyes fill with the lights of Glory.
Ok, time to pull myself together and keep trucking on craft fair projects. Thanks for letting me process a little today, and for putting up with one more sample of a card fold I just can't seem to get enough of! But in my defense, if you haven't tried it yet, you don't know how addicting they are : )
Get those cards in the mail, my friends…
I love this fold, just haven’t had the time to try it, but hopefully this weekend.
Oh Lyssa, you are so forunate to have a grandmother that loves God and shares with her grandchildren, regardless of their age. I hpe that my grandchildren can say that I was an encouragement to each of them. I have nine grandchildren and try to send each an encouragement card each month, some are serious and some are just funny, but they look forward to the mail..
Praying for your grandparents and you during this time.
A beautiful card & one she’ll love.
Lyssa, you grandpa and grandma will be in my prayers! They sound like a wonderful couple, and I’m sure she will miss him when he dies.
God bless!
A beautiful card for a beautiful lady! Bless you all!!
This is such a gorgeous card for your Gramma Lyssa. But how special is your card from her with such beautiful words. Sending hugs and prayers xx
I am getting all teary eyed just reading this post! Yes, you are very fortunate to still have your grandparents with you…..I really only knew one of my grandparents (my maternal grandmother) and she passed away when I was in my early 20’s but had been pretty much gone since I was in high school but I have many treasured memories of spending time with her when I was a little girl and reading your post got my eyes “leaking” just a bit!
Hugs to you….and thanks for the post with this great card which apparently I have missed due to the busy details of day to day life and email overloads! I am going to check it out and give it a whirl, especially since I bought a boatload of 12×12 DSP during the recent specials! Jan
p.s. have been thinking of you and the awesome SCS swaps you organized in the past , just can’t get into the swing of swapping at the local OnStage Live events. Jan
Hugs & prayers for you and your grandparents! Reading your post brings back many wonderful memories I had with my grandma. Your grandmas letter is one to cherish!
Your card is absolutely beautiful and your grandmother will love it!
Thank you all for praying for my grandma and her husband. He passed away this afternoon. I appreciate your sweet thoughts and words for her at this time.
I’ve made two of your Four Fold Cards and thank you for the good directions for this interesting…and addicting project. But mostly, thank you for sharing your faith so openly. It’s been several months since your grandfather passed away and I hope that your grandma is adapting to her life without him. It isn’t easy, even at their age but obviously their faith will get her through it. She has one more reason to look forward to Heaven.
