Wanted to share this scrapbook page with you. It’s a momentous occasion because it represents a big decision for me. I have always scrapped in 8.5×11, but that size has proven less popular over time and is now very hard to find. Even Stampin’ Up discontinued their 8.5×11 line (although have you checked out the new chipboard album selection? They have a great new 8.5×8.5 line! too cute).
So I knew eventually I would have to switch over. But I am one of those people who needs all the window blinds to be facing the same way and be pulled up to the same level every morning. KWIM? And I have sixteen fully completed albums’ worth of 8.5×11 pages. So I have been putting it off (gasp! Big surprise here from the Procratination Queen).
So what makes this page special (other than that I created it–hee hee!) is that it is not only my first created-for-personal-use 12×12 page, but it is also my first Convention 2008 page! So I’ve actually scrapped some of my SU photos. I have been vascillating for the past three years about what size to do and what theme to use. This represents a major commitment on both those counts.
I really, really like the look of theme albums, where you stick with a single color family and limit the number of stamp sets used, so the whole album has a cohesive feel. They feel restful and they’re pleasing to the eye. However, I am not a cohesive kinda person IRL (n real life) so why should my scrapbooks be? It’s like the old commerical–"sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t!" Well, I always feel like a nut, LOL! But it is true, sometimes I feel bold and energized and other times I feel introspective and pastel-y. Hmm…. I think I just created a word.
Ok, by this point you are really wishing I’d cut to the chase and tell you about the picture, right? Ok. I’ll spare you the rest of my pasteli-ness this morning. This is a page I made for Shelli Gardner’s (founder and CEO of Stampin’ Up) first ever blog challenge. She wanted to see entries made with the word "celebrate" on them, and I think there were about 150 entries. Unlike many contests, it’s painless because you don’t have to send in your creation, just take a photo.
So the photos are from when UPS gave EVERYONE at convention an additional free stamp set as a thank you for our business last year. To say the crowd went wild is an understatement. To say the crowd went BERSERK is more like it! I got some fabulous photos and to me they are the essence of convention, capturing all the excitement of the moment, of being there with six thousand other stampers, of all our hard work to get where we were, our complete giddiness over getting MORE free stamps, and our craziness over Stampin’ Up. Ok, now I feel more on the "bold and energized" side of things!
I hope my page conveys some of that. I glued the confetti down all one side. It came down so thick after the announcement, that if you opened your mouth it stuck to your tongue. It looked like it had snowed in the convention center. I chose the convention theme colors of light burgundy and coppery orange and added touches of black to make them pop, and added lots of stars as accents.
It’s a bold, busy, colorful page because that’s who I was at the moment those pictures were taken, and it’s who I am again when I look at them. And there’s your pyschoanalysis for the day. Probably last you all week.
Congrats on converting to 12X12! I actually never scrap on a 12X12 page before so when I do it will be a major change in that direction too. But for now, I think I’m gonna stay with the standard size. By the way, you’re celebration page is super cute!
