Boo Hoo for Baja

Anyone else boo-hoo'ing today for the Color Refresh news released yesterday that Baja Breeze is not returning in the main catalog? That was a big shocker to me! I am likewise going to miss River Rock, but that one wasn't really a surprise as a lot of people haven't embraced that khaki tone, so I figured it would get the axe in the next update.
I made four cards yesterday with my newest set, Postage Due, and I purposefully used Baja Breeze and River Rock so you can see them in action again before this weekend. What's so special about this weekend? It's the 3-Day Free Shipping Special from Stampin' Up! It starts at 1:00 a.m. CST tomorrow morning and goes through 12:50 p.m. CST Monday night. Click here to bargain hunt!
All products that include retiring colors are on the "while supplies last" list as of yesterday, so DON'T DELAY–if you need to grab some more packs of paper, and ink refill, or some embellishments in your favorite retiring colors–do so immediately!

I have loved Postage Due since the catalog came out last June but it never seemed to make it to the final cut. Well, last month I won a free stamp set in a contest Stampin' Up was running, so I knew just what to pick. I paired the vintage set with sentiments from the versatile Bring on the Cake birthday set.

I clear-embossed the main collage image from Postage Due with my heat tool on Very Vanilla cardstock, then daubed colors on–some Baja Breeze, some River Rock, some Soft Suede–to get a cool emboss-resist background. Then I stamped and punched out a variety of the antique postage stamps with the Postage Stamp punch (#122344) to layer on top, some paired with a little taffeta ribbon or Naturals Trim (#129287) and the great Antique Brads (#117273).

I made four versions altogether. I love the last one here with the woven Soft Suede taffeta ribbon. Doesn't that look fun? I'll try to whip up a quick photo tutorial for you on how to do that one.

If you've been getting your inspiration from Song of My Heart Stampers, show me a little love! Leave a comment below, or place an order on my shopping website during the big Free Shipping Weekend and let me know you appreciate the sharing. I don't charge for tutorials or even have a tip jar, so I'd love it if you can send me feedback by way of comments. It really makes a blogger's day to get that email notification! Thank you in advance!

  3. I am sad to lose River Rock. I LOVED using that color in vintage styled cards. I always get inspiration from your blog, Lyssa. I was in a stamping slump for awhile until I found your blog. Your projects got me excited about stamping again, to the point where I signed on as a demo with you! Thank you for sharing and please continue to do so!

  4. Well when you show River Rock and Baja Breeze in cool cards like this I will miss them too. You are the person who exposed me to River Rock as a “go to” neutral, so I got a little bit of use with it. Otherwise, I never would have opened the package I had! I am surprised that Baja Breeze is going away. I use it so much I assume others are as well. I will find new favorites in this revised color groups! 🙂
