One of the high points of our whole trip was our much anticipated "Deadliest Catch" excursion aboard the Alleutian Ballad, now reitred from crab fishing in the Bering Sea. We don't have cable, but we got hooked on the Discovery Channel show on my dad's TiVo the past two summers, and so this was the first excursion we booked for the cruise. Here we are up bright and early with the lovely little town of Ketchikan in the background (and you can see I'm wearing the adorable little shoulder wallet bag Stampin' Up had given us as a pillow gift).
I was so grossed out by the crabs, but I AM a brave girl, so I made myself hold one! Ewww!!! He looks kinda mad, don't you think? Mike was much braver than I and he held all kinds of stuff. Here he is goofing off with a partially eaten king crab. Did you know octopii eat crab? I didn't! We both learned a LOT on this very fun and informative trip. We also saw lots of eagles and learned about some different types of fish as well as the many different kinds of crabs.
What a fun morning! It was pretty crisp, especially when we were away from shore, but not unbearable, and the ship provided big lined raincoats and the lower deck sported several overhead heaters over the grandstand-type seating. Speaking of which, I had a cool sighting all by my own self on the opposite side of the ship–I actually briefly spotted a wolf along the shoreline just as I was thinking, oh, this would be the perfect place to spot some wildlife. He disappeared right back up into the trees before I could even get my camera up and of course by the time I got Mike's attention he was long gone. Oh well!
HAhaha! I LOVE the photo of Mike “eating” the crab. Too funny! Glad you guys had a fun trip and made it back safely 🙂
