Random Fiji Fun

What cute guys they have in Fiji, eh? Check out these three handsome hunks I hung out with one evening… the one in the middle asked me on a date. I think I'm in love!!! And the best part is, he followed me home to the States, so now I get to keep him. LUCK-EEE!!

Got a bunch of fun random photos from our stomps Down Under. I am still waiting for friends to share their photos of some of the more major excursions we made. Did I mention I got to jet-ski for the first time!! WHoo hooo!!! I am a speed demon, turns out!

This is probably just a touristy thing, but they will hack off the top of a coconut with a machete, stick a straw in, and give it to you to drink. It's not very good, actually… it's kind of like barely-flavored water. Of course, most tourists order the one that has a tot of rum poured in! I'm guessing that either A. gives it that little something, or B. makes them not care.

I still can't believe I took this photo… this is just one of the astounding sunsets we saw. Fiji is truly enchanted. How great is our God!

I know, I know, I'm obsessed with lilypad photos… but I've never really been around them that much. And they're actually really cool. The flowers were absolutely pristine and each stood out alone against a serene showcase of waxy green leaves.

Had to take a photo of this little rubber stamp shop in Nadi, naturally. Love their slogan–"Quality Better than the Best." I have a tons of pictures of the day we went to the market… that will have to be it's own post!

Fiji is so incredibly welcoming… the guidebooks aren't kidding when they say this may be the friendliest place on plant earth (it helps that most of them speak English!). The only two words you need to know to get along in Fiji are "bula" (hello) and "vinaka" (thank you). We enjoyed this welcoming trio when we got off the plane that first morning. They had flowers to put in your hair and shell necklace "leis" for everyone.

Fun treats at our Swap & Share… halved limes, frozen and filled with melon-berry sorbet. Cute idea!

And last but not least of our Fiji experiences… this is me tasting Vegemite for the first (and last) time. Holy yeast extract, Batman–is that stuff NASTY! I can't believe people eat (and love) that stuff! To me it's like eating a packet of yeast made into a paste with crushed multivitamins. YUCKY!! Is anyone surprised that this was brought to us by the company that created "processed cheese food?" It does have an interesting history, though–you can read about it here if you are unfamiliar. So I'm glad I tried it. But we definitely didn't buy any jars to bring home!

  1. Your Vegemite reminds of the skit Lucille Ball did on TV where she is drinking this nasty stuff called Veg-a- mite and she starts getting drunk because it contains alcohol in it, it’s soo funny! Glad you had a great time too!

  2. vegemite just tastes nasty doesn’t it?? It seems everyone here eats it on their toast for breakfast or take vegemite and cheese sandwiches for lunch. I think it tastes so disgusting and smells just as bad. I always tell people it’s what’s left at the bottom of a vat of beer and they just scrape it up and bottle it. uggghhh.
