Mini Photo Tutorial: Washi Tape Fall Leaves

Came up with something pretty in the stamp room and had to share how drop-dead easy it was! You can do this technique with any kind of washi tape, but I'm in a blingy sort of mood, so I used the new Year of Cheer specialty metallic washi tape, as well as copper and champagne foil cardstock. I wish the photos caught the gleam–the shine on this card is GORGEOUS in person!

PS–the greenish tint on the champagne foil is the reflection of the trees in my backyard. I try to take photos outdoors whenever possible here in Wisconsin, although sometimes that require sweeping snow off first!

Today I had to sweep off a mess of black walnut shells which I suspect were placed there by the same little booger that broke my birdfeeder. Here he is sprawled out on his favorite branch outside my kitchen window.

So anyway– here's how to make these washi tape leaves! It's so easy I got all the steps in one photo. You can do this technique with any kind of die-cut. Hearts, stars, trees, etc. If you've got washi and aren't sure quite what to do with it, this is a great technique to get you started.

Take a scrap of cardstock that is sized a little larger than your die, and cover it with washi tape laid side by side with no gaps in between the lines. I like to lay mine in diagonal stripes as they are usually more interesting than perfectly vertical or horizontal ones.

Then just die-cut your shape! If you're recreating this exact card, I recommend no more than two of the leaves be washi tape and at least two be solid. With more washi tape leaves, it was just too busy-looking.

One more tip: guess what? This washi tape trick works with punches, too! So all those shapes are also at your disposal.

Whaddya think–gonna try it? Leave me a comment and let me know if this sparked your imagination! Thanks for dropping in today.
