Christmas pages in August??? I know, I know. It's a weird time of year to be scrapbooking the cold season, but today's inspiration page for 31 Pages in 31 Days is a fun, quilt-inspired paper wreath layout made entirely of scrap strips. You can put one photo in the middle, or punch or die-cut several smaller photos into ornament shapes and scatter them amongst the "berries."
DESIGN TIP: as a general rule of thumb, the busier a page is, the bolder and bigger the headline needs to be to hold its own against all the visual information bombarding your eyes. A small word or a longer phrase would be lost as it just couldn't compete.
These strips are 3/4 by 4 inches long or so. I had about a hundred left over from a giant In Color card kit project this month and I couldn't bear to toss them in the bin. I wouldn't have thought to use Lovely Lipstick as a Christmas red, but it works, when paired with Call Me Clover!
After I got all my scrap strips laid out with a good balance of red and greens and stripes and dots, I thought, GREAT, now what? If I tried to lift them to glue them down, I'd disturb the whole arrangement and have to start over. So I laid my largest clear blocks down carefully over the entire project, then removed them one at a time so I could slip glue dots under the strips in a section without bumping the others. It worked great!
What inspiration are you pulling from today's layout? My scrap-using-up mojo was strong yesterday… I have two more pages to show you soon! Your scrap bin will be EMPTY if you use even one or two of these ideas : ) See you tomorrow for Day Thirteen!
Lyssa, what a great way to use up your scraps! So cute. Plus, you have a jump start on those Christmas photos when you print them!
