31 Pages in 31 Days: Happy Halloween Boo Overlay Spread

2015 31 Pages in 31 Days SOMHS header-001

Hi everybody! Welcome back to 31 Pages in 31 Days! Today's inspiration page is a cutie–we don't really celebrate Halloween here so I don't get to play too much with some of the fun color combos and products that are associated with that holiday. Penni loaned me a cute new set from the 2015 Holiday Catalog to use for this spread we'll be making during our final Scrapbooking Summer School class. It's called Howl-o-ween Treat, and it has matching Framelits! No hand-cutting, hooray!!

Halloween is one of those off-kilter holidays, not to be taken seriously, so I staggered my double photo mats in a fun way. The first set marches stiffly across the page, but the second set march off at their own angle. It's a cute way to suggest movement from left to right. My color scheme was Delightful Dijon, Mossy Meadow, Blackberry Bliss, Basic Black and Whisper White.

Another super fun little detail you can incorporate into your pages is a photo overlay, made with a window sheet. TIP: This piece of acetate is attached only at the top, and you slide your photo underneath it. The die-cut "Boo!" will lay on top of your photo. You can also do it with vellum, or even a scrap of clear envelope, in a pinch. Fun!

I think I'm going to stamp and die-cut a bunch of these owls before I give this set back to Penni! Wouldn't he be adorable on teacher cards this fall? Or a graduation page this spring? And of course I couldn't resist adding googlie eyes…

I DON'T like spiders, but these ARE kind of cute, and it was fun to take a ruler and draw the webs. While I had the markers out, I doodled a little on the hat and on the "boo" to kind of add my own custom touch.
