31 Pages in 31 Days

I love how today's pages turned out, and I can't wait to make them with the Scrapbooking Summer School attendees on Thursday! This layout would be perfect for a heritage album, with black and white photos, or for an old-fashioned photo shoot. Historical themed costumes, a trip to a museum–lots of possibilities that could be played up with the antique newsprint and images.

TIP: I started with 12×12 Basic Black cardstock and layered torn strips of Typeset Designer Series Paper on the top. Layering the newsprint removes the distraction of the eye wanting to "read" it, and helps it stay in the background where it belongs.

On the backside of one of the print papers was a pretty medallion pattern, which I tore along one edge and then adhered to the background, leaving a 1/4-inch gap that winds up looking like ribbon. It serves as a "continuity line" for the two-page spread, helping to connect the layout into one whole.

One of my favorite scrapbooking tools is thevintage Postcard stamp. It's just the blank frame, so you can put any images, handwriting or word stamps in there that you like. I used a saying stamp from Trust God and a vintage cruise-liner stamp from the Traveler stamp set. Plus, it's perfectly-sized for a card front, so it's quite a versatile purchase.
