31 Pages 31 Days 2016-001

Welcome to Day Two of 31 Pages in 31 Days, Song of My Heart's exclusive annual blog series and challenge! Are you up for it? Make a scrapbook page per day (or several at once) for a total goal of accomplishing 31 pages during a single month. It's called "immersion scrapbooking" and IT CAN BE DONE!!! Join the online support group here at the 31 Pages in 31 Days official Facebook fan page!

Today's inspiration page is our first Scrapbooking Summer School project for the year. Every Thursday night this month ten of us are gathering for a scrapping technique class and 12 more are playing along online with mailed packets I send them. SO MUCH FUN!

TODAY'S TIP: I love a good black, white and yellow color combo, but it can look a little stark if you use black and white photographs, Iike I plan to for this page, so I inserted a pop of Island Indigo, another "cool" color, to tone down the bright yellow so that it won't overwhelm the monochromatic photos. Many people thing having B&W photos means you can go crazy with the color scheme, but the opposite is actually true. You have to watch it or the photos will be thrown completely in the shade. Color is a funny thing that way!

The starburst technique on this page was easy to do given the Irresistibly Floral papers I chose for the background. I used a striped patterned sheet which comes pre-embossed with a clear finish. When you sponge or spritz or roller ink onto it, it doesn't stick to the embossing–only the paper around it. It's called the emboss-resist technique and is usually quite time-consuming, but when the paper comes pre-embossed, it's a snap! I sponged Crushed Curry ink "radiating" out from a focus point under my photo mat.

Thanks for joining me for Day Two of 31 Pages in 31 Days–see you tomorrow for Day Three and another fun design tip, too.
