Boy, ya can't tell I've been dreaming of the beach lately, can ya? Three beach-themed pages in the last week! Today's inspiration page is not only beachy, it's also a sneak peek of a brand new stamp set coming your way!
The new Totally Trees stamp set will be in the 2016 Holiday Catalog and available to order beginning September 1st. It makes SEVEN different types of trees, with background and detail stamps to coordinate–even individual leaves, snowflakes and stars–plus a great "sun" stamp which will come in handy for all kinds of projects. It's truly adorable. Be sure to check it out when the catalog goes live!
I LOVE this layout. LOVE it. Each page is composed of four equal strips of 2.5 x 11 inches–that's it! So easy. Laid out in strict marching order they provide a crisp background structure that mimics tropical shutters or lattice. I was remembering Barbados' tiny and colorful wooden homes when I made this page. The sunshine made everything so intense.
TODAY'S TIP: I love using up scraps! But sometimes they really are awkwardly cut or too small for what you need. I hate to waste paper so I've come up with this trick! You can make small scraps appear to be bigger ones by covering the "join" with a strip. For instance, the bold yellow diagonal stripe on the right hand page is actually two pieces. The smaller strip of yellow patterned paper looks like just an accent piece to bring attention to the tree focal point, but it's actually camouflaging that the stripes are two separate pieces of paper. BINGO!

Turns out I have one MORE beachy/ocean themed page up my sleeve–but you'll have to come back tomorrow! Day 27 of 31 Pages in 31 Days, comin' right up! Not too long before another month-long SOMHS blog series is in the books. Thanks for reading!
I love how different the beachy-themed pages look although they use a lot of similar colors. This layout is really fun, I really like the strips of paper on the background too. Great tip about faking larger pieces of paper with smaller – that’s a great way to “save” paper too! 🙂
Beautiful, Lyssa! Can we all meet in Hawaii?! I a also an avid scrap crafter, and enjoy using up so many pieces. Thanks for the tips each day… I have learned a lot from following your creative challenge, 31/31. Take good care and happy weekend!
