31 Pages in 31 Days 2016: Day Twenty

31 Pages 31 Days 2016-001

Welcome back to 31 Pages in 31 Days, Song of My Heart's exclusive August blog series for scrapookers! Take the #31pagesin31days challenge and get a TON of scrapbooking done in a single month. You can do it! Today we have another treat… another special friend who wanted to help me out this month since I've not been well. Cheryl Tumbarello knew I was stressed about falling behind and she made this gorgeous spread for me to share as today's inspiration page–so sweet! And is it ever beautiful!

I love her beautiful color scheme of Old Olive, Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, Watermelon Wonder, Soft Sky and Whisper White, and the trendy diagonal layout she used.

TODAY'S TIP: Cheryl says she likes to put pictures on the diagonal because it draws more attention to them. She also says most people are too afraid of cropping their photos. A typical photo by an amateur photog contains just 25% of area that we actually need to see. Chop-chop that background and you'll be able to fit lots more photos on a single page, and be able to use more clever layouts, like this one.

Cheryl says she's gotten very good at throwing photos away after all these years as a dedicated scrapbooker, because she's learned to tell the story with just the best of the best materials, and let the rest go. Good advice!

31 pages in 31 Days Song of My Heart 2016 20bCheryl even handed me a paper with the measurements all written down for you guys! Here you go:

  • Old Olive cardstock: four strips 1 x 10.5 inches; four pieces 1 x 1.5 inches; six squares 3 x 3 inches; and three rectangles 4.25  x 6.25 inches.
  • Floral patterned paper: six squares 3.25 x 3.25 inches and two rectangles of 4.5 x 6.5 inches.

TIP: Take a look at this fun little accent below–she actually cut little slits 1 inch apart in her base page and THREADED the strips though to make these cool little basket-weave corners. Then she scored accent lines and added some Clear Wink of Stella glimmer pen to them. Now that is paying attention to detail!

Now, wasn't that an amazing page? It's so pretty and it was such a thoughtful thing for Cheryl to do. I'm definitely going to try the slit pages/threaded paper technique. Thanks so much for stopping in to see Day Twenty–hope you'll come back again tomorrow for Day 21!

PSST: Leave a comment and tell Cheryl you think she should start a scrapbooking blog of her own! She's amazing!

  5. Cheryl, I think you should definitely have your own scrapbook blog!! Your layout is so beautiful. I love it – and I can see you love to use the same flowers that are my “go to” on a layout.
