31 Pages in 31 Days 2016: Day Four

31 Pages 31 Days 2016-001

Tonight's the first Thursday in August 2016 and I'm so excited for our first Scrapbooking Summer School session of the year! Every Thursday for four weeks we're meeting here locally in Watertown, Wisconsin, to get our total of 31 Pages in 31 Days done together. This is one of the layouts we'll be making in class!

Today's inspiration page is a double-page birthday-themed spread with a super cool color combination that's perfect for summer.

Suggested Color Combination:

I really, really like color-block layouts like these because they're super efficient in terms of fitting lots of photos on a page. They're also very economical, as the 3×3 inch squares waste no paper at all. That makes my little thrifty soul happy!

TODAY'S TIP: Whenever I have a "troublesome" color that is giving me problems, but I still need to use it because that's what I have or whatever, I start combining it with other colors. If it's a "warm" color, I choose a "cool" color to pair it with. In this case, I needed to use Peekaboo Peach, which is a little intense for me, not gonna lie : ) I paired it with Emerald Envy, a cool color, and Mint Macaroon, the lighter version of Emerald Envy. The Peekaboo Peach still stood out a little too brightly on the page, so the addition of small amounts of deep Tangerine Tango helped spread the "hot" colors out and diffuse the intensity.

Many people think they are "no good" at choosing color combos. Once you start looking at it as a matter of pairing warmth and coolness, you'll find yourself much more pleased with your combining skills!

  1. What a great tip Lyssa – I will try that the next time I struggle with picking “matching colors”. I love this color block layout style, it makes my symmetry-loving heart happy 🙂

  2. Nice layout. I can get a lot of photos on this page or choose to use various blocks. It doesn’t limit me as much.
