Life expands to meet its container

If you saw a blur of motion out of the corner of your eye this weekend, it was probably me! I'm not sure how it all got done, but all kinds of things were accomplished or occurred during the past three days. And you know, while I'm tired, and wishing my children's' biological clocks would reset themselves automatically when we go into that bizarre arbitrary time of year known as Daylight Savings, I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. I LOVE my job and I LOVE my family and I LOVE our new church home. So it's all good!

I have one more craft fair left this season, and three more major Christmas card events, and then things will slow down for the holidays. I'll enjoy the change of pace, for certain. But lately I've been so struck by how short life is. And there's so much I want to do and learn. Mike and I were talking about this concept this very afternoon. I said if I had half the people who ever said to me, "Hey, I should learn to stamp," actually acted on that thought, I would have a huge waiting list to get into all my classes. But the truth is, so many people never make the time to do any of those extra things.

Notice I said "make" the time, not "take" the time. There is never any time there for the "taking." Life expands to fill its container. We have a single human body to make use of, and only 24 hours in each day. So you have to budge things out of the way, cross stuff off your schedule, say no once in a while. And you make the time for the things that are important to you. You create it.

What have you said "Hey, I really should –" to lately? When is that honestly going to happen? It isn't, unless you make it happen. It might not be learning to make cards or scrapbook pages, but it could be something else rewarding or healthy or spiritual or even just plain fun. Life is short. Make it happen. Create the time to do that thing which you really truly honestly knew you wouldn't do.

Now, if that thing is card-making or learning to scrapbook, look on my blog menu and click on Upcoming Events. If it's not, promise me right now, my friend, that you'll do ONE thing today to move towards that goal. Google up a You Tube video on it. Search Amazon for some how to books. Post on Facebook in search of the start-up tools. Peek on Pinterest to get inspired by people already doing it. Tweet for the world that you're starting.

Create that space in time where you will nurture that part of yourself that is individual and unique in all of myriad humanity. It's probably the most important thing you will ever make.

  1. Great post and great cards! What color shimmer paint are you using to make your sparkly spray? I need to add some to my next order! 🙂

  2. Well said, Lyssa! Since the first of my children was born 12 years ago, I have practiced the art of saying no and my life has become richer and more satisfying because of it. My husband and I determined our priorities and when anything is asked of us, we run it through our “priority filter” before giving an answer. As a result, we spend a lot of time with our immediate and extended family, enjoy our church family, volunteer, and have plenty of time for hobbies. Your words are SO true about making time.
And by the way, I do stamp and scrapbook but I also am about to make time to read a very exciting novel right now! 🙂
    Love your cards!
