31 Pages in 31 Days: welcome to the party! Rainbow Birthday Layout & Card

SSS 2019 Header-001

Hello there! I am so excited you're joining us for my annual blog series, 31 Pages in 31 Days! Every year I take the month of August to do "immersion" scrapbooking–you know, where you get everything out and make a giant mess, but it's got an end date in sight?–and get a ton of pages done. I've done this for years now and it's the only way I personally manage to scrapbook any more. Just the way life goes!

If you want to play along, I've set up a fun Facebook challenge group, where I'll be posting some free resources, doing some giveaways and you can share your own pages to inspire each other on the journey. Join here!

The "rules" are to complete at least one page or layout per day, and try to wind up with 31 pages total in August. You'll be seeing pages from my personal challenge as well as layouts I created for Scrapbooking Summer School, which is also going on this month! Whew!

Song of My Heart Stampers is a BUSY place to be in August. I hope you'll join us and play along or pin the ideas for later!

Ok–let's get down to business! Here's our very inspiration page for Day One, a fun twist on a "filmstrip" layout.  31 pages days scrapbooking 12x12 layouts SU rainbow page ideas scrapbook album 1
Just looking at this layout makes you happy! There is nothing like a rainbow against crisp white clouds. Ours is made up of primary color photo boxes. You can use all of them, or leave some empty, depending on your needs. There's plenty of space for journalling (maybe in a cloud shape?) up on the left hand area, and you could squeeze in some smaller circle-punch size photos next to the clouds as well.

PRO TIP: Each of my photo squares is stamped with a different birthday-ish motif. I used Birthday Backgrounds and stamped tone-on-tone so it wasn't too busy. When your colors are bold, and your layout is bold, keep the patterned stuff mild or it will compete.

The spatter stamp from that set made great little rain drops, too! I mixed in rhinestones with mine, because BLING.

To get the perfect angle so my entire rainbow fit, I used a ruler to pencil a very faint line from the bottom left corner of the left hand page up to the four inch mark on the right hand side. Then use the ruler to continue the line across the right hand page.

I'm trying a new thing this year–instead of trying to do all 31 posts PLUS my regular blogging on top of things, worrying that I'm going to lose my cardmakers' interest–I'm going to include a card inspired by the page whenever possible. I'm excited to do this challenge-on-top-of-a-challenge and I hope it will help those of you who don't scrapbook not feel left out this month!

  1. I’m a cardmaker who follows your blog. I really, really appreciate you making a coordinating card. In the past, I just waited for Aug to be finished to come back to following your blog. I really like your ideas. I used to scrapbook and sometimes save your examples for when I get back into it. I like today’s scrapbook layout!
