Learned a new technique last week and wanted to share a quick mini-tutorial with you so you can make these fun 3-dimensional paper stars, too! They are perfect for Christmas decorations and ornaments, Independence Day celebrations on July 4th, or Americana home decor, any time of the year.
I started with my Simply Scored board and stars cut with the Stars Collection Framelits for the Big Shot, using my Magnetic Platform. You can use any scoring tools and hand-traced and -cut stars if you wish.
Align two points of your five-pointed star along the bottom edge of your Simply Scored, centering it middle point right over one of the tracks. Score straight up from the bottom to the top point of the star.
Note: it doesn't have to be perfectly precise–as long as it's pretty close. It will still work.
Continue around the star until you have lines radiating out to all five points.
Then, just pinch each of the long score lines on the points to form a "mountain" and each of the short score lines to form a "valley." Voila! A sturdy 3-D star that holds its shape very well, yet can be flattened for storage between uses. AND it comes in any color you want to make it!
I recently used these for Americana centerpieces, and combined them with stars from the limited-edition Many Merry Stars Kit. It makes fabulous star-shaped bozes, 26 of them in all. Some are red and green but many are kraft paper and can be used any time of the year. I'll be sharing pictures soon of how I used them for a "Sweet Dreams" baby shower as well. Stars never go out of style, so they make a great investment for your crafting collection.
