Isn’t this adorable? I’d love to get a cute box like this on my desk on my birthday, wouldn’t you? And watch what happens when you remove the lid!

The sides of the box fall down to reveal a pop-up cake in the middle! So cute… and actually, not that hard to make! Here’s the measurements, if you’d like to give it a go. Just leave a comment and let me know you’re going to try it!

Explosion Box

Box base is 12×12 cardstock, scored at 4 and 8 both directions, remove the four corner panels entirely. Save one to cut down to 3.75 square for the box top decor.

Top is 7 inches square, scored at 1.5 inches on all four sides. Clip up the corners and fold flaps form flaps. Make sure it fits box before finalizing adhesive.

Decorate the top with the cut-down square removed from the base, and a piece of 3.5 square patterned.

Outside box panels–4 pieces 3.75 inch square patterned paper

Inside box panels–five mats 3.75 inches square cardstock

Inside box papers–three patterned paper pieces 3.5 inches sq, and one white. Leave the center square empty to decorate.

Inside pop up piece is 6 x 1.5 inches, score at .5, 3 and 5.5. Form an acute triangle and attach the smallest side to the middle of the center box panel. Adhere whatever you wish to pop up on both sides. It must be less than 4 inches tall total.
