Best Ever Monster Bash! Mystery drawer box and more

Hello again, my freaky friends! Wait, I didn't mean that quite the way it sounded! My FABULOUS friends, I mean!

Welcome back to Day Three of the Best Ever Monster Bash. My crafty BFF Penni (who is a Halloween baby, if you recall) are sharing all our seasonal ideas for October fun using your papercrafting supplies. I hope it inspires you to go ahead and let yourself get a little crafty this year!

Our teamie Heidi shared this cool box at our monthly Stampin' Up demonstrator night and Penni decided she would tackle it after I chickened out. She assured me it was not bad at all! So I am going to try to make a Christmas version.

When the box is opened, you can see both where it gets it's name–and why I was intimidated!

Pretty awesome, eh? There are some other versions out there, but this one is super easy and of course Penni has done it up to the nines with Halloween decor from the Monster Bash suite. The portraits are sooo funny! And that background paper is perfect!

Ready to give it a go? Here's the fast version instructions! I will make a real tutorial when I attempt this one myself.

• Cut your panel cardstock to 11 and 6 & 1/8th inches.
• Score at 2.25, 4.5, 6.75 and 9 inches on the long side. The short panel will go on your right.
• When you fold the panels, fold INTO the score lines. This will help the box fit inside the lid snugly.
• Cut your lid to measure 6.25 inches square.
• Score at 1 and 2, then 4.25 and 5.25 inches. Rotate 90 degrees and score again as above.
• When you fold the lid together, fold AWAY from the score lines. This will make the lid slightly larger than the box.
• Use strong adhesive such as Tear & Tape or Liquid Multi.
• Cut your boxes (four) 5 &1/8th inches square.
• Score at 1.5 inches on all sides. Form into boxes with the flaps towards the inside.
• Cut your patterned papers (12) to 2 x 1&3/8ths inches to mat all four boxes.
• Cut 10 pieces of 2 x 6 inches patterned papers for the inside and outside of the panels.
• Cut 4 pieces of 2&1/8ths by 3/4 inch papers for the lid sides and one 2&1/8th inch square for the top.
• Adhere all papers to the various pieces before assembling.

Putting it all together:

• Start with attaching the bottom-most box on the lower left hand panel. Use strong adhesive.
• Next, add the uppermost box on the top of the fourth panel from the left.
• Make sure you're gluing all the boxes with the empty top facing up!
• Add the remaining two boxes on the second and third panels, as shown, creating a staircase look.
• The boxes should not overlap at all; you might find a spot where you need to trim off a sliver.
• Fold it all together several times to loose up the score and make sure it all collapses down into the tower. 
• If the lid is too snug, flatten the sides of the lid with a bone folder.
• If too loose, add a scrap or two of cardstock inside the lid to thicken the sides slightly.

After you've tackled a few of those mystery drawer boxes, you won't have much energy to make party food, so here's the quickest Halloween gathering food prep yet! And another really healthy choice to balance out all the candy. If you don't have three small dip bowls, just cut down some paper cups to the right height. Cute!
