No offense to whomever invented this card, but you could have come up with a better name than "movement card." My ladies and I instantly dubbed this the "jiggly card" and I like that name a lot better! You'll see what I mean when you try this for yourself. The secret is in thin acetate strips that will wiggle and wave when you open the card.
Jiggly Card Measurements:
Cut two 5.5×8.5 cardstock bases, one for outside, one for inside. Score the inside one at 2.75, 3.25, 3.75, 4.25, 4.75, 5.25, and 5.75 inches.
Fold the center score up, the two on either side of it become the “valleys.” The next two out from those become “mountains.” The final two score lines out from the center are “valleys.”
Line the inner parts of the "mountains" with adhesive and stick a bunch of small strips of clear acetate window sheet in between them, varying them up and down along the card spine. Sticky Strip is best for long-term adhesive.
Add a punch (stars shown above) on the end of each strip, making sure that the strip and punch are short enough that they remain in the card when it is closed. If they stick out, remove the punch, trim the acetate strip down a bit, and put the punch back on. SNAIL works great for this part, or you could use mini glue dots, too.
Fold the outside card in half and adhere the inside accordianed card into it. Make sure you leave a little space away from the actual fold of the card to account for the extra bulk of the accordianed part. Decorate the outside as desired.
I also tried this with butterflies, which turned out kind of cute. Hearts or flowers would be adorable as well–maybe sports balls, pumpkins, birds–ooh, how about snowflakes?–the sky is the limit! I would suggest using something you can punch out, though, rather than having to hand cut a bunch of little whatevers for the jigglies.
Enjoy this fun and simple WOW Jiggly Card… you will delight the hearts of the recipients!
Wow! I will have to do one of these for my next class. My peeps will love it 🙂
